Why do you ask for kids' birthdays?

We ask for kids' birth month and year for a few reasons.

• We provide age-appropriate defaults and recommendations to parents in the guided parts of the experience.
• Parents can choose to automatically adapt certain restrictions as kids age, for example giving them more authority or screen time when they turn, say, 13.
• We turn off the service automatically when kids turn 18.

We only ask for birth month and year, since that's the least amount of data we need to accomplish the above. (We don't believe in asking for information we don't plan to use in a clear and user-controlled way.)
