Can I use Screenable on my own device?

We are getting a lot of requests by parents and other adults to use Screenable to limit their own device's apps and screen time, and we are seriously considering it. Please put in your vote too by contacting us and letting us know your situation – thank you!

In the meantime, there is a way to set it up and get most of the benefits already. We'll make this process much easier in the future, but for now, it just takes an extra minute or two. Follow the steps below.

  1. Download the Screenable parent app and create a new account, if you haven't already.
  2. Start the process to add a device, e.g. by tapping the plus sign on the Home tab.
  3. When asked, add a new "kid" and enter your own name.
    • You can choose any date of birth.
  4. On the screen instructing you to download the kid app, just open the App Store and download the Screenable kid app directly on your own device.
    • Note that the kid app is called "Companion App for Screenable".
  5. Switch back to the parent app. On the next screen, to connect the device to your account, tap enter the code manually and copy the code.
  6. Switch to the kid app, enter the code you copied, and go through all the steps of setting up the device.
    • When it alerts you that the device is not connected to a kid's Apple account, ignore it and choose "Use the current account".
  7. When you're done on the kid app, switch back to the parent app and complete setup by choosing all your app and screen time settings.
    • We recommend adding the Screenable parent app to your "no time limit" apps, just so you always have access to it (in case you need to change your settings).
  8. When you're done, you'll be instructed to "Fire up the engines" by opening the kid app and force-syncing your new settings.
    • Once you do that, a few moments later you should see the changes take place on your device.
