How can I set a school schedule?
This feature don't exist yet. We're in Beta and testing it out – coming soon!
Limiting device usage during school hours is hugely important to help our kids focus and learn. Many schools have banned phones already, but you can layer on additional prevention and flexibility through Screenable – for example, limiting usage only to certain apps. Here's what to do.
How do I set a schooltime schedule?
- In the Screenable app, go to your kid's device settings.
- You can do this either in your kid's profile settings or for a specific device. In both cases, it sets the bedtime schedule for all that kid's devices.
- Tap Device schooltime.
- Choose a start time and end time for school days, and select the days it applies to.
- When you save, it'll take a few minutes to update on your kid's devices.
What happens during schooltime?
During schooltime, all of a given kid's devices will switch into schooltime mode. That means no app will be allowed to be used, except for the ones Apple doesn't permit us to block (including Phone and Settings). If you want to remove other apps we can't block, see how to set allowed Apple utilities.
In the future, we plan to allow specific apps to be used, such as Messages and Find My. Please contact us to put in your vote for your specific family needs!
How should I set healthy schooltime boundaries?
We recommend starting device schooltime even earlier than kids' first class starts, so they're not tempted to use devices up until the moment school begins.
We also recommend ending schooltime only when they will start to need to get ahold of you, rather than exactly when school ends. This keeps them from the temptation of immediately checking their phone when school ends, or focusing on devices rather than the people around them.
But as always, you know your kids and family needs best!
