What is your Beta program? What is TestFlight?

The Screenable Beta program is for parents who want to get our latest content and features early, in order to help us refine and improve them before they launch to everyone else. (Side note: thank you Beta users! 🙏)

How does the Beta program work?

Here's what you do:

  • Install a pre-release version of the app on your own and your kids' devices, using something called "TestFlight" (see below).
  • Use all the Screenable features as you normally would.
  • Give us periodic feedback, about 1 survey per month, and maybe the odd phone call with one of us.
  • Get Screenable for free! And some other perks we haven't figured out yet. 🙂

What is TestFlight? How do I use it to download the Screenable Beta app?

TestFlight is an app made by Apple that allows people to download pre-release versions of apps, since you can't get them on the App Store. Here's how it works:

  1. From your (the parent's) iPhone or iPad, tap the download link that we sent you.
  2. Follow the steps on that page to:
    1. Download the TestFlight app.
    2. Use the TestFlight app to download the Screenable Beta app.
  3. Note that during setup, you'll also need to install the Beta app on your kids' devices too, which can be a little trickier.
  4. Make sure to:
    • Keep TestFlight installed on your and your kids' devices, so the Screenable Beta app keeps working.
    • In TestFlight, make sure to keep "Automatic Updates" turned ON for the Screenable app.
    • Turn off TestFlight notifications if you want, since you don't need to be bothered every time we release a new version.

I don't have the TestFlight app anymore – what should I do?

That's okay – sometimes it gets deleted accidentally or otherwise lost. But you'll need it on both your (the parent's) phone as well as your kids' devices if you want to stay in the Beta program, since otherwise you'll stop getting app updates, which means the service will (eventually) stop working.

  1. Download TestFlight again from the App Store.
  2. Open TestFlight.
    • If you are an active Beta user, you should immediately see Screenable listed as an app you are testing.
    • If not, follow the link we originally sent you when you joined Beta. If you need it again, just contact us.
  3. Update the app and you're good to go.
