Something seems weird or broken on my kid's device – what should I do?

There are a few common ways that Screenable appears not to be working kids' devices. Below are the broad types of issues and how to fix them.

I suspect the device is no longer connected – how can I tell?

If a kid's device is no longer connected, then it will act as though Screenable doesn't exist – nothing will be blocked, no time limits will be enforced, and all apps will appear available.

  1. Open the Screenable parent app.
  2. In the Home tab, tap your kid's tile.
    • If they have more than one device, swipe the tabs to find the right one.
  3. In the tab itself, see where it says "Checked in".
    • Devices typically check in every ~5 minutes that they're connected to the internet, like so:
    • If it says "Disabled" (with a red dot), scroll down to Mode & device settings to re-enable it.
    • Otherwise, if it's not checking in, and you're sure it's connected to the internet, first make sure the kid app is set up correctly. It should look like this when you open it:
    • If it doesn't look like that, it is not currently set up with Screenable – you will need to add it again.
    • Otherwise, on their device, go to Settings > Screen Time, scroll down to "Apps with screen time access", and make sure sure Screenable is turned ON. If not, turn it back on.
    • Then try restarting the device.
    • If that still doesn't work, you'll have to reset Screenable on that device.

All my kid's apps are accessible when they shouldn't be.

  1. Follow the steps above to make sure the device is still connected to Screenable and enabled.
  2. In Dumb Phone mode, make sure you have selected the correct apps you want to allow, since the ones you don't explicitly remove or block will be allowed.
  3. In Screen Trainer mode, if kids have already started using screen time for the day, it will appear as though their apps are all available. To verify this situation, you could block them from using apps temporarily, confirm that blocking is working, and then switch it back.
  4. If these don't solve your problem, please contact us. There may be something else going on. (iOS 15 devices are particularly finicky and may need a deeper dive.)

Certain apps are accessible when they shouldn't be.

Please see why apps might be appearing accessible.
